Braedon arrived in Austin in 1988, just two years after Ashley entered the world in 1986 — two lives beginning their Austin story around the same time, long before they'd ever meet. While attending the University of Texas, Braedon dove into campus life, joining a fraternity and serving as a Silver Spur. Meanwhile, a few miles away, young Ashley was growing up in Tarrytown, learning to navigate the world in the very same zip code Braedon called home.Originally from McAllen, Braedon and his two younger brothers grew up more like characters out of a Mark Twain novel than modern kids — running wild through fields,swimming and knee-boarding in canals, rappelling off of bridges and getting into just enough trouble to make for good stories later. It was the kind of small-town, barefoot-summer childhood that belonged to another era: guns over their shoulders, dogs at their heels, and no shortage of mischief among brothers. That spirit never quite left Braedon.Ashley, meanwhile, was cutting her teeth on a very different kind of upbringing just a few miles away. As the baby of four, she learned early how to hold her own — soaking up her older siblings' wisdom (and their hand-me-downs), talking her way out of trouble, and figuring out exactly which rules were worth bending. Her mischief looked a little different than Braedon's — no canals or weekend nights in Mexico, but plenty of neighborhood scheming, sneaking out to explore Tarrytown after dark, and the particular brand of trouble that comes from being the youngest and most determined to keep up. Where Braedon was off having Tom Sawyer adventures in the country, Ashley was having her own version in the big city — just as spirited, but with sidewalks instead of dirt roads.Over the years, their paths crossed more than once without either of them realizing it. Ashley's niece, Mary Elizabeth, attended Trinity Episcopal School alongside Braedon's son, Sam — the two of them classmates and fellow theater kids. But Ashley and Braedon themselves were each at different points in their own lives, and their story was destined to wait.It finally began in the recovery community here in Austin. Both active and committed members, they met at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church during a Thursday night meeting — a meeting that had long been Braedon's home group and would soon become Ashley's too. He was already a familiar, steady presence in the community by the time she arrived. What started as a friendship grounded in mutual respect, shared values, and integrity slowly became something more, as they each continued to walk their own diligent recovery journeys side by side.Then, last November, Braedon asked Ashley to grab coffee — and the rest, as they say, is history.There's a certain truth that comes with age and life experience: you get clear on what you want. Braedon knew. He pursued Ashley with intention from the very beginning, and just shy of seven months later, he asked her to marry him.There's a beautiful full-circle quality to how they've chosen to celebrate. They'll say their vows at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church — the very place where they first met — and their reception will take place at the Headliners Club, in the very same room where Ashley's parents celebrated their own wedding reception back in December 1984 — nearly 40 years earlier.Now, they're beyond excited to marry, build a life together, and blend their families into one. Because their wedding day carries so much history and meaning within it, Ashley and Braedon made the intentional choice to keep the ceremony and reception itself an intimate, immediate-family-only affair, a quiet and meaningful moment just for those closest to them. But the celebration doesn't stop there — they can't wait to gather with you as well all of their friends a few days later for a party dedicated entirely to celebrating this next chapter together.
